Data reporting and collection mechanism for HPV vaccination program and the research gaps to improve health information system – Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka delivers HPV vaccination mainly via school-based programs integrated into primary health care, coordinated by the Epidemiology Unit with provincial and district health authorities. Data collection is paper-based at school level (school registers and child health records) and aggregated into the ENIP system (DHIS2 platform) for national monitoring. Public Health Inspectors conduct annual school surveys to identify eligible children and track coverage. The system enables aggregate-level reporting (dose coverage, wastage, process evaluation) but lacks individual-level tracking across doses. First-dose coverage began in 2017 (77%), with second-dose follow-up around 70%, highlighting need for a web-based individual tracking mechanism to close data gaps.
