In Nigeria, routine HPV vaccination coverage among nine-year-old girls remains low in Kano State, constrained by limited awareness, persistent myths, and geographic and economic barriers. Pathfinder International used DHIS2 data to identify low-coverage local government areas and implemented targeted community outreach in collaboration with State Primary Health Care Development Boards, deploying trained vaccination teams alongside mobilized community gatekeepers to dispel myths and build uptake. Of 16,930 girls vaccinated, 7,614 (45%) were reached through outreach across just six LGAs, with one month of outreach matching or surpassing a full year of routine immunization in several areas; in Dawakin Kudu, Tarauni, and Fagge, outreach accounted for 100% of DHIS2-reported vaccinations. The findings demonstrate that data-driven, community-led outreach is a scalable, high-yield strategy for accelerating HPV vaccination in low-resource, routine-delivery-constrained settings.
