Social Mobilization and advocacy in Sebeta, Ethiopia

The HPV vaccination program in Sebeta Town, Ethiopia, launched in 2018, targeted 14-year-old girls using school-based, outreach, and fixed-post strategies. Key activities included micro-planning, capacity building, and advocacy with local authorities, educators, and community leaders. Despite strong coordination and high early coverage rates, challenges such as budget constraints, vaccine rumors, COVID-19 disruptions, and difficulties reaching out-of-school or mobile students persisted. Lessons highlight the value of stakeholder collaboration, community mobilization, and integrating HPV vaccination into routine health and educational activities to ensure sustainability.
