Post-Introduction Evaluation of HPV Vaccination in Indonesia: a lesson learnt for future program

The study evaluated Indonesia’s HPV vaccination demonstration program through a mixed-methods approach combining desk reviews, field observations, and stakeholder interviews across six districts in three provinces. High coverage among schoolgirls was achieved through integration into existing school health programs and robust cold chain practices. Despite strong acceptance, challenges included inconsistent engagement with religious leaders, inadequate guidance for out-of-school and missed-dose girls, and data quality issues. Recommendations highlighted revising national policy to include out-of-school girls, strengthening rumor management, and improving enumeration and coverage calculation practices. These lessons aim to guide future HPV vaccination scale-up and sustainability in Indonesia.
