Overview of single-dose evidence

This presentation reviews global evidence on single-dose HPV vaccination compiled by the Single-Dose HPV Vaccine Evaluation Consortium, funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. It highlights clinical trial data from Africa, Asia, and Latin America showing comparable efficacy between single- and multi-dose schedules in preventing HPV 16/18 infections for at least ten years. WHO’s updated recommendations endorse one or two doses for girls aged 9–14 years, with additional doses for immunocompromised individuals. Modeling analyses suggest single-dose vaccination significantly reduces cervical cancer burden and optimizes program costs and logistics. The approach promises broader access, simplified delivery, and accelerated elimination goals.
