Monitoring Temperature Excursions in HPV Vaccine Management in Indonesia: Insights from Internet of Things Digitalization

The study explores Indonesia’s use of IoT-based digital monitoring through the SMILE system to track HPV vaccine storage temperatures. Between July and December 2023, frequent temperature deviations below 2°C and above 8°C were recorded, largely due to increased vaccine volumes from school-based immunization and limited cold chain capacity at Public Health Centers. Data from 21 provinces highlight the scale of excursions, averaging 37.5 hours below 2°C and 171.9 hours above 8°C monthly. Findings emphasize the need for improved scheduling of vaccine campaigns, expanded IoT integration, and coordinated distribution to avoid overlaps. Strengthening cold chain infrastructure and nationwide monitoring is critical to ensuring HPV vaccine potency and program success
