Integration of HPV vaccination programs with adolescent health services:

The presentation from Burkina Faso highlights opportunities and challenges for integrating HPV vaccination into adolescent health services. Cervical cancer is the second most common gynecological cancer in the country, with high incidence and mortality rates (Globocan 2020). Potential opportunities include using adolescent health centers, educational talks, and clinics run by the Burkinabé Association for Family Welfare to deliver HPV vaccines alongside sexual and reproductive health services. Integration with existing campaigns—such as deworming, meningitis vaccination, and school sports events—offers additional outreach points. Platforms led by youth groups (e.g., U-reporters) can also be leveraged for communication. Key challenges involve low utilization of adolescent health services and insufficient coordination among health sectors. Future plans include co-administering HPV and typhoid vaccines during upcoming campaigns to optimize coverage and resources.
