The presentation describes Sikkim’s HPV vaccine rollout, emphasizing multi-sectoral collaboration between health, education, social justice, rural and urban development departments, and local administrative leaders. Oversight was provided through multiple state and district committees, including a State Technical Advisory Group (STAG) and task forces. Operational planning followed a bottom-up approach with preparedness assessments and distribution of guidebooks to teachers to address community and parental queries. Key best practices included strong school engagement, media sensitization, proactive awareness campaigns, and strengthened cold chain infrastructure (e.g., installation of walk-in coolers). Development partners contributed technical support (WHO), procurement and communication (UNICEF), and documentation (JHPIEGO). Lessons for sustainability highlighted the high market cost of HPV vaccines mitigated by procurement through UNICEF at GAVI-subsidized rates, the need for ongoing advocacy to secure state budgets, and integration of HPV vaccination into school health programs due to COVID-19-related workforce constraints.
