HPV vaccine product landscape

Global HPV vaccine coverage stood at 28% of the female target population in 2024 despite 80% of WHO member states having introduced the vaccine, with the coverage gap driven by the delayed introduction of large-population countries including India, China, and Pakistan. The shift to single-dose schedules has fundamentally reshaped global demand dynamics: in 2024, a record 43 million girls were reached, with 79% receiving the vaccine under a one-dose schedule. The product landscape has expanded significantly, with four WHO-prequalified vaccines now available — including two lower-cost Chinese-manufactured bivalent products — alongside a growing pipeline of higher-valency candidates and new manufacturers projected to reach market by the second half of the decade. Supply modelling indicates that global shortage risk has substantially decreased and that excess production capacity is anticipated in the mid-to-long term, with increased manufacturer competition expected to drive prices further downward.
