Emily Kobayashi, Head of the HPV Vaccine Programme at Gavi, presented the Alliance’s support mechanisms for introducing and revitalizing HPV vaccination programs in francophone Africa. She outlined Gavi’s “must-win” prioritization of HPV since 2022, aiming to vaccinate 86 million girls by 2025. Support includes vaccine introduction grants, operational cost subsidies for multi-age cohorts, co-financing arrangements, and switch grants for transitioning to single-dose schedules. Additional mechanisms cover health system strengthening and targeted technical assistance to enhance routine services and address supply constraints. Countries were categorized by program status—new introductions, pending cohorts, and existing programs—with tailored support pathways. Timelines for applications and opportunities to leverage pooled funding and partner collaboration were also detailed.
