CHIC HPV Council Consensus Statement on One-Dose Recommendation

In this consensus statement dated April 28, 2022, the CHIC HPV Council welcomes the WHO SAGE conclusion that a single-dose HPV vaccine delivers solid protection comparable to two- or three-dose schedules, and urges national immunization programmes and policy bodies to act on this recommendation. The Council highlights benefits for girls and families (comparable protection), programme managers (simplified logistics, fewer doses per cancer prevented), and countries yet to introduce HPV vaccines (an attainable prevention promise). The statement calls for six key actions: rapid review of single-dose evidence at country level; special attention to reaching out-of-school girls and expanding target age groups; broad dissemination of the evidence to NITAGs, professional societies, and partners; strengthened partnerships with community organizations; continued investment in adolescent primary health care platforms; and a broad strategic approach to cervical cancer elimination. CHIC is funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation through the International Vaccine Access Center, with the secretariat managed by Jhpiego.
