The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is currently in the planning phase for its HPV vaccination program, with a progressive rollout scheduled to commence in the fourth quarter of 2026. The country has opted for a single-dose schedule using a quadrivalent vaccine, a strategic choice recommended by technical advisory groups despite the National Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) having no prior history with HPV vaccine implementation. The program’s primary targets include 9-year-old girls for routine immunization, alongside catch-up campaigns specifically designed for multi-age cohorts (MAC) aged 10 to 14 years. Service delivery will utilize a versatile approach involving schools, health facilities, and community-based sites to reach an ambitious coverage goal of 65% for routine services and 80% for catch-up initiatives. Financial sustainability for this introduction is expected to be maintained through a partnership between the DRC government, Gavi, and other key stakeholders.
