Cervical cancer screening programs implementation – Q&A Session

The session highlighted the uneven progress of cervical cancer screening across South Asia, emphasizing both achievements and persistent challenges. Bhutan’s transition to HPV-based screening, combined with high vaccination coverage, was presented as a regional benchmark for integrated prevention. In contrast, India, Bangladesh, and Nepal continue to rely primarily on VIA-based programs, which face obstacles in coverage, follow-up, and diagnostic capacity. Pakistan remains in the early stages, focusing on building workforce and program infrastructure. A recurring theme was the critical role of patient navigation systems and digital tools in ensuring continuity of care from screening to treatment. Participants called for coordinated strategies, leveraging existing health networks and community workers, to accelerate progress toward WHO’s 90-70-90 targets for elimination.
